Peoples’ Democratic Council Co-Chair Siham Quryo: “Women must play a significant role in drafting the new Syrian constitution”
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — Following her participation in a dialogue forum organized by the Syrian Women’s Council, Co-Chair of the People’s Democratic Council in the Democratic Autonomous Administration the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) Siham Quryo emphasized the importance of applying the region’s progressive approach to women’s rights across a new, unified Syria.
“Women must play a significant role in drafting the new Syrian constitution,” Quryo stated. “The constitution should reflect the spirit and perspectives of women, not just those of men.” She highlighted the need for women to be granted full rights in all aspects of life and governance.
Equal Representation in Government
Quryo advocated for women to hold 50% of positions in the new Syrian government, mirroring their substantial involvement in DAARNES. “The experience of women in DAARNES should serve as a model for the rest of Syria,” she said.
Quryo also announced plans for a national women’s conference to be held soon in Daramsuq (Damascus). She extended an invitation to women from all regions of Syria to participate, expressing hope that the conference would yield decisions addressing the needs and challenges faced by women across the country.
“We aim to ensure that the voices and concerns of women from every corner of Syria are represented and prioritized,” she added, underlining the significance of unity and inclusion in shaping the country’s future.
The dialogue forum and the forthcoming conference mark critical steps in advocating for women’s empowerment and equal representation in Syria’s ongoing transition process.
