Syriac Union Party and Kurdish National Council advocate for democratic and inclusive Syria following meeting

ZALIN, North and East Syria — As part of its ongoing meetings, a delegation from the Syriac Union Party (SUP) visited the headquarters of the Kurdish National Council (KNC) in Zalin (Qamishli), North and East Syria.

The SUP delegation included Co-Chairs Sanharib Barsom and Shamiram Danho, along with members of the SUP Executive Body Afram Ishaq and Habib Ardish. They were warmly received by KNC Head Mohammed Ismail, KNC Leadership members Faisal Yousef, Fasla Yousef, Nimat Daoud, and Suleiman Osso, as well as independent figure Abdul Bari Khalaf.

Unified Vision for Syria’s Future

During their discussions, both parties reviewed the latest political developments in Syria and shared their perspectives on the ongoing crisis. They reached a mutual understanding, advocating for a democratic, pluralistic, and decentralized state that safeguards the rights and freedoms of all national and religious communities in Syria.

Both groups emphasized the principle of equality among all components of Syrian society. They stressed the need for representatives from all Syrian parties and ethnic groups to actively participate in the country’s transitional governance, constitution-drafting process, and preparations for general elections.

Call for Kurdish Unity

The SUP further underscored the importance of achieving consensus among all Kurdish political parties and forces. This unity, they asserted, is vital for building a stable and inclusive future for Syria.

The meeting highlighted the shared commitment of the SUP and KNC to work toward a peaceful, democratic resolution to Syria’s crisis while ensuring that the rights of all communities are respected.
