Syrians hold demonstrate in Hejaz Square, call for inclusive National Dialogue Conference
DARAMSUQ — Hejaz Square in Daramsuq (Damascus) became the center of a demonstration organized by political forces, parties, civil society organizations, and activists, including members of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC).
Participants raised slogans urging the Syrian Transitional Government headed by Ahmad al-Sharaa to convene a National Dialogue Conference, which they described as a crucial democratic guarantee for all Syrians.
The demonstration comes amid significant political transformations in Syria following the fall of the authoritarian regime of Bashar al-Assad and growing calls for a national dialogue to foster participatory democracy and political pluralism.
Attendees emphasized the importance of an inclusive conference that genuinely reflects the aspirations of all Syrians. They rejected the imposition of de facto policies by any political or military entity and opposed the exclusion or marginalization of any Syrian ethnic group.
SDC members reiterated their long-standing position advocating for dialogue among Syrians as the foundation of a political solution. They called for the immediate organization of a National Dialogue Conference aligned with the SDC’s vision for Syria’s future.
Speaking to the SDC’s official website, political activist Ahmed al-Muslim stated that the demonstration is just the beginning, with more demonstrations planned to increase pressure for a national dialogue. Al-Muslim stressed the need for a constitution that guarantees democratic pluralism and the right to self-determination through free and fair elections, free from external interference.
Activist Wafaa Doumani echoed these sentiments, calling for the National Dialogue Conference to produce binding decisions rather than serving as a mere consultative platform. Doumani emphasized the importance of the conference in laying out a clear roadmap for political transition, one that fulfills the aspirations of the Syrian people.
