Political representatives, tribal leaders, and clerics hold demonstration in North and East Syria affirming support for SDF and a unified Syria

HASAKAH, North and East Syria — Political parties, tribal leaders, and clerics gathered in front of the Justice Palace in Hasakah, Gozarto (Jazira) Canton, North and East Syria, to hold a demonstration in solidarity with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The event featured a statement read by Sheikh Akram al-Mahshous, Deputy Secretary of the Conservative Party, addressing the broader Middle East situation and Syria’s current challenges.

The statement highlighted the inclusive nature of the SDF, which comprises all Syrian components, and its role in liberating North and East Syria from the Islamic State (ISIS). “On behalf of political parties, clans, ethnic components, and civil society, we declare our support for the SDF,” read the statement, emphasizing the need for a democratic, pluralistic, and decentralized Syria.

The statement also expressed support for national dialogue between the SDF and the Syrian Transitional Government to benefit all Syrians. It underscored the vision of building a politically, economically, and administratively stable Syrian state that guarantees the rights and responsibilities of all its citizens.

Following the statement, representatives of the region’s ethnic components delivered brief speeches. Sobhi Malke, Co-Chair of the Syriac Progressive Youth Union, noted that the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people were among the pioneering communities involved in the establishment of the SDF. He highlighted the role of the Syriac Military Council (Mawtbo Fulhoyo Suryoyo, MFS) and Syriac Security Forces (Sutoro and Sutoro Women) in the fight against terrorism alongside other military forces.

“Syriac people are an indigenous community in this region,” Malke stated. “Today, the Syriac Union Party [SUP] in Syria stands with other regional parties advocating for a decentralized, pluralistic Syria with a constitution that guarantees the rights of all Syrians.”

Fadi Antoine Jajo, a member of the SUP, emphasized that the vigil demonstrated unity among Syrians and rejection of any plans to partition the country. He reiterated the commitment to supporting the SDF in its efforts to defeat terrorism and halt Turkish attacks.

“We are open to dialogue with all who recognize its importance,” Jajo added. “Dialogue is the path to building a unified, pluralistic, and decentralized Syria.”

The demonstration underscored the region’s determination to foster unity and cooperation in pursuit of a peaceful and stable future for all Syrians.
