Suryoye Aid Network International highlights humanitarian achievements in 2024 reports

BETH NAHRIN — The Suryoye Aid Network International (SANI) released its 2024 annual report showcasing its humanitarian and development projects. Dedicated to supporting the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) and other communities, SANI highlighted its efforts to aid those affected by conflict and hardship across various regions.

The 23-page report provides an overview of initiatives implemented by SANI’s 11 member organizations, including the Syriac Cross Organization for Relief and Development and Stichting Schlomo. It emphasized the network’s continued commitment to humanitarian relief, particularly for displaced persons and victims of conflict, through projects in healthcare, education, and social development.

Legacy of Humanitarian Assistance

Founded to address the growing needs of Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) communities, SANI emerged as a response to decades of displacement and persecution. With deep roots in resilience, the network operates as an umbrella organization, coordinating the efforts of multiple Syriac-led relief groups.

While focusing on emergency response, SANI also prioritizes long-term development initiatives aimed at preserving the cultural and social identity of Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) communities worldwide. Collaborating with local and international partners, the network ensures sustainable support during crises.

Expanding Humanitarian Efforts

The report outlines various projects addressing critical challenges in key regions. Educational support, healthcare services, financial aid, and skills training were central to SANI’s 2024 activities. The organization also concentrated on relief distributions and development initiatives to strengthen community resilience.

SANI undertook extensive work in the historic region of Tur Abdin in southeastern Turkey and Zakho and Nohadra (Duhok) in northern Iraq. SANI provided aid for victims of the tragic wedding fire in Baghdeda (Baghdad). It also played a vital role in relief efforts following the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria, assisting with home repairs, infrastructure restoration, and the installation of prefabricated homes.

Addressing Water Scarcity and Agricultural Needs

In Gozarto (Jazira) Canton in North and East Syria, SANI improved water supply systems and developed irrigation infrastructure to support local farmers. These efforts aimed to boost agricultural production and secure sustainable livelihoods.

In Lebanon, the SANI organizations provided essential supplies to 300 displaced families affected by ongoing conflict in the south.

One of SANI’s flagship projects, the Syriac Cross medical clinic in Qabre Hewore (Qahtaniyah), North and East Syria, has served over 11,449 people in the past two years. During the holiday season, financial aid reached 2,400 people, distributed equally across Turkey, Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria.

The organization also focused on creating employment opportunities, helping 130 individuals secure jobs in various humanitarian and development sectors.

Vision for the Future

SANI reaffirmed its dedication to delivering medical, relief, and development assistance in the years ahead. The network pledged to continue fostering stability and improving livelihoods for Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) communities, and other communities in need, ensuring a more secure and prosperous future.
