Syriac member of Swedish Parliament Robert Hanna leaves Liberal Party to join Moderates
STOCKHOLM — Syriac member of the Swedish Parliament Robert Hanna announced his resignation from his parliamentary seat, as well as the Liberals (Liberalerna), declaring his decision to join the Moderate Party (Moderata Samlingspartiet).
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Hanna expressed pride in his decade-long tenure with the Liberals but acknowledged feeling increasingly aligned with the Conservative Party in recent years.
“My political views have grown closer to those of the Moderate Party, particularly on issues related to integration, gang crime, and social exclusion,” Hanna wrote.
Of Chaldean–Assyrian–Syriac Iraqi heritage, Hanna intends to remain active in political life as a member of the Moderate Party.
During his time with the Liberals, Hanna served as Deputy Chairman of the Culture Committee in the Swedish Parliament. His departure marks a significant shift in his political career, as he continues to advocate for policies aligned with his evolving views.
Tack Liberalerna!
Hej Moderaterna!
