Syriac Women’s Union in Zalin hosts Nineveh fast-breaking celebration
BETH ZALIN (QAMISHLI), North and East Syria — The Syriac Women’s Union (SWU) organized a special event to mark the breaking of the Nineveh Fast, featuring traditional food, music, and folkloric dances.
The event took place on Friday afternoon at the union’s center in the city. It brought together women from the Syriac, Catholic, Assyrian, and Chaldean church denominations to celebrate the conclusion of the fast, a significant religious tradition in Christianity.
The gathering featured dishes traditionally associated with the fast, along with a selection of sweets.
SWU Chair Georgette Barsomo highlighted the deep connection between the Nineveh Fast and both Syriac identity and Christian faith.
Barsomo was pleased with the strong participation of members of the Union but also the broader Syriac (Assyrian-Aramean-Chaldean) community.
She concluded by expressing joy at the vibrant turnout and the celebration of Syriac cultural and religious heritage. Extending her best wishes to the community, she offered warm greetings for the occasion of this sacred fast.
