Syriac Union Party and Greek Orthodox Bishop Baalbaki of Hemto (Hama) explore possible cooperation

A delegation from the Syriac Union Party (SUP) visited the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese in Hemto (Hama). The meeting aimed to strengthen cooperation between political and religious organizations in central Syria and to promote a broader dialogue on the current challenges of Syria.

HEMTO (HAMA), Syria — During their ongoing visits to Hmoth (Homs) and Hemto (Hama), the SUP delegation led by SUP Co-chair Shamiram Danho and the party’s head of relations Afram Ishak, met with bishop Nikola Baalbaki, the head of the Greek Orthodox (Rûm) Archdiocese of Hemto (Hama) and its environs. They also sat down with several community leaders from the town of Mahardeh.

The meetings focused mainly on the current phase of challenges and the general unrest in Syria.

In the conversation with Bishop Baalbaki, the situation of the Syriac and Christian communities in Hemto (Hama) and the surrounding areas was discussed. Both sides stressed the urgent need of addressing the concerns of the local population amid the changing political and social landscape of Syria.

The exchange between the SUP and Bishop Baalbaki served as a basis to explore forms of joint efforts to address the challenges facing the Syrian people. They expressed a shared interest in supporting the stability of the country and ensuring that all communities, especially smaller ones, have a voice in shaping Syria’s political future. The meeting underscored the crucial need for unity and well-organized cooperation among ethnic and religious groups to navigate Syria’s complex realities.
