Demonstration in Göppingen, Germany, to support peace, equality, and justice in Syria
GÖPPINGEN, Germany — On Sunday, several organizations gathered in front of the town hall of Göppingen, Germany, to advocate for peace, stability, and human rights in Syria. The event was organized by the European Syriac Union (ESU) and the Bethnahrin Women’s Union (Huyodo d’Neshe d’Bethnahrin, HNB), with additional support from members of the Left-Wing Party and other activists.
Calls for Human Rights and Democratic Values
Speakers at the demonstration addressed the evolving political situation in Syria following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s dictatorship. They emphasized the urgent need to end human rights violations and crimes that jeopardize democratic values and national stability. The speakers also underscored the importance of fostering coexistence among Syria’s diverse communities and prioritizing gender equality as a key pillar of the country’s future.
Women’s Role in Syria’s Reconstruction
Tibelia Aharon, a representative of HNB, highlighted the critical role of women in Syria’s reconstruction efforts. She stressed that achieving security and stability requires eliminating all forms of violence against women and ensuring their active participation in rebuilding the nation. Aharon pointed to the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) as a model, where women have taken prominent leadership roles within government institutions.
Preserving Identity and Securing Rights
Jacob Tunj, representing the ESU, discussed recent developments affecting the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community and urged them to act decisively in securing their national rights. He emphasized the need for Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) representation in Syria’s future constitution, advocating for equal inclusion of all ethnic and religious communities.
Turkish Interference and Regional Instability
Tunj also criticized Turkish interference in North and East Syria, accusing Turkish forces of undermining the region’s security. He called for greater international awareness of these destabilizing actions, emphasizing their impact on regional peace.
Unified Call for Justice and Equality
The demonstration in Göppingen reflected the growing concern among diaspora communities over Syria’s future. Participants called for justice, equality, and a peaceful resolution to the country’s ongoing challenges. Their messages of solidarity underscored the importance of collective efforts to rebuild a Syria that upholds the rights and dignity of all its people.
