Syriac Union Party hosts dialogue seminar on future of Syriac people in Syria
BETH ZALIN, North and East Syria — The Syriac Union Party (SUP) organized a dialogue seminar for the eastern neighborhoods of Beth Zalin (Qamishli), including Al-Suryan, Arbawiya, and Bashiriya. The seminar aimed to address the latest developments in Syria, with a particular focus on the situation and future of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people amid rapid political changes.
Held at the Hall of Mor Quryaqus Church, the event was attended by a large gathering of Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) residents, dignitaries, and prominent figures.
Key Discussions on Political and Social Developments
The seminar was moderated by member of the SUP General Council Robel Bahho and Syriac Women’s Union (SWU) official Georgette Barsomo. Bahho provided insights into the ongoing negotiations between the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) and the Syrian Transitional Government in Daramsuq (Damascus).
He also discussed the challenges and opportunities for the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people in Syria, emphasizing their efforts to secure their rights and future role in the country.
Bahho highlighted the importance of active participation by the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community in institutional work and national dialogues. He called for the inclusion of Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) representatives and their national institutions in broader Syrian discussions, stressing their vital role in fostering security and stability in the region.
Strengthening Coordination and Local Initiatives
The seminar also explored the responsibilities of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people and their political organizations, underscoring the need for greater coordination and integration. The role of the Coordination Committee of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) People’s Parties was highlighted as a crucial mechanism for unifying efforts.
A second focal point of the seminar emphasized the importance of local initiatives to address community needs. Following a discussion with attendees, it was agreed to form a committee comprising local residents to spearhead self-service projects in the neighborhoods.
Call for Continued Engagement
The attendees stressed the importance of holding regular mass meetings to keep the community informed and engaged with ongoing developments affecting the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people. Such gatherings, they agreed, are essential for fostering unity and ensuring that their voices are heard in shaping the future of Syria.
The SUP reiterated its commitment to facilitating dialogue and advancing the rights and aspirations of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community in Syria.
