US halts aid to Lebanon amid calls for Hezbollah disarmament

WASHINGTON, D.C. — US President Donald Trump’s recent decision to halt all aid to Lebanon, including financial support for the Lebanese Army, has drawn significant criticism from international organizations and communities.

President Trump emphasized that US funds will no longer be provided without a clear return that benefits the American people, according to a US State Department.

Tom Harb, Director of the American Mideast Coalition and a member of the US Republican Party, confirmed the decision’s validity, stating that the aid freeze takes immediate effect.

Media reports indicate that the US Congress plans to issue a draft resolution within two weeks setting a strict deadline for the disarmament of Hezbollah Iran-backed militia operating in Lebanon. If this condition is not met, no form of US assistance will be extended to the country.

Hezbollah’s Regional Impact

Ibrahim Mrad, President of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) in Lebanon, commented on the development, asserting that the issue of disarming Hezbollah is an international concern, not solely a Lebanese one.

Mrad noted that Hezbollah’s weapons are supplied from outside Lebanon and are used to further Iran’s strategic interests rather than serving the Lebanese people. He highlighted the group’s involvement in conflicts across the region, including Syria, Yemen, Iraq, the Gulf, and even Kosovo.

“Hezbollah’s weapons pose a threat to global security,” Mrad declared, calling for their immediate disarmament and elimination.

The suspension of US aid and the mounting pressure to disarm Hezbollah underscore the growing international scrutiny on Lebanon’s political and military affairs. Observers warn that the aid freeze could further destabilize Lebanon unless steps are taken to address the root causes of the current crisis.
