President of International Religious Freedom Secretariat Nadine Maenza meets with clergy in Daramsuq (Damascus)
DARAMSUQ — Nadine Maenza, President of the International Religious Freedom Secretariat (IRF), met with clerics, including patriarchs, archbishops, priests, and community leaders during her visit to Daramsuq (Damascus).
In an Instagram post, Maenza noted that the individuals she met emphasized their desire to be recognized as equal components of Syrian society, rather than being categorized as minorities. They expressed their commitment to advocating for a robust constitution that guarantees equal rights and citizenship for all ethnicities and religious denominations in Syria.
Maenza expressed gratitude for the warm reception she received from civil society organizations and prominent figures in Daramsuq and its surrounding areas, who supported her visit and its objectives.
As part of her trip, Maenza toured the infamous Sednaya Prison in the Daramsuq countryside, accompanied by an official delegation of international and local representatives. The visit aimed to shed light on the human rights violations endured by detainees and the need for accountability.
Maenza called on the international community to assist in uncovering the fate of missing persons and victims and to ensure that those responsible for crimes against humanity are held accountable.
