President of Syriac Union Party in Lebanon calls for renewed commitment to official curriculum in Syriac language in schools

TUR LEVNON, METN, Lebanon — The President of the Universe Syriac Union Party (USUP) Ibrahim Mrad, marked International Mother Language Day with a powerful message of revitalization and renewed commitment. In a video message posted on his official X account, Mrad praised the tireless efforts of those committed to the historically marginalized Syriac language, expressing deep appreciation for their continued work in preserving and revitalizing the language of Jesus Christ and Middle Eastern Christianity. 

He urged for a revival of the language, away from its low point and back to its profound historical and cultural significance, so that it can regain its prominence. Mrad emphasized the Syriac language’s crucial role in shaping identity and existence. He called for a renewed commitment to teaching the Syriac language officially in schools and within Christian communities, revitalizing its place as a living, spoken language in all of Lebanon.

Despite decades of decline and neglect under oppressive status-quo systems, Mrad stated that the Syriac people are and will not be deterred in their struggle to reclaim their language’s rightful place as a globally recognized historical, cultural but most of all living treasure. 

Closing his message with a passionate appeal, Mrad urged all Syriacs (Maronites-Assyrians-Arameans-Chaldeans) and Christians worldwide to unite in the mission of safeguarding and promoting the Syriac language.  

“My Language is my Identity,” and “Long live the Syriac language,” he declared, underscoring its fundamental role in the survival of a people and their heritage.
