35 political parties criticize Syrian Transitional Government for lack of inclusivity in National Dialogue Conference

DARAMSUQ — A coalition of Syrian political parties and organizations has issued a public statement denouncing the approach taken by the Preparatory Committee for the Syrian National Dialogue Conference, accusing the Syrian Transitional Government (STG) of attempting to manipulate the representation of the Syrian people.

The statement comes in response to an announcement by the STG that it has invited a wide range of individuals to attend the proposed National Dialogue Conference in Daramsuq (Damascus). According to the political parties, this move is designed to lend the transitional government an unwarranted veneer of legitimacy.

“The invited individuals represent no one but themselves,” the statement declares. “This approach of selecting individuals by a committee formed by one party and portraying them as legitimate or true representatives of various regions of Syria is no different from the tactics and manipulations of the defunct Syrian regime.”

The signatories argue that the conference, as planned, does not reflect the aspirations of the Syrian people and fails to address the core issues facing the nation. They advocate instead for an inclusive national dialogue involving representatives from all of Syria’s diverse communities and political factions.

The statement outlines an alternative vision for national dialogue, emphasizing the importance of inclusive representation. It suggests that any meaningful dialogue must include delegates from Syria’s political and military forces, social organizations, and civil society groups. The aim, the signatories contend, should be to collectively draft constitutional principles that guarantee the rights of all societal components.

“In countries that have faced circumstances similar to those in Syria,” the statement reads, “national issues are addressed through a national meeting attended by representatives of the people’s diverse communities and political forces. These representatives discuss and agree on constitutional principles that guarantee the rights of all components of society.”

The statement further criticized the STG’s efforts to hold a conference under what it calls “superficial representation,” dismissing such gatherings as “meaningless, lacking credibility, and incapable of contributing to real solutions for Syria’s crisis.”

The statement was signed by the following political parties and organizations:
