British delegation visits North and East Syria to assess regional challenges and support development

BETH ZALIN, North and East Syria — A British delegation arrived in Beth Zalin (Qamishli), North and East Syria, on Monday to meet with officials of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) to assess recent developments and gain insights into the evolving situation in Syria.

The delegation includes Martin Round — council member and Mayor of Maidstone, Karen Constantine — deputy leader of the Labour Party in Kent County Council, Sir Roger Lyons — former President of the Trades Union Congress in Britain, and Jasin Kaplan — director of aviation at Mid Kent.

The visit highlights Britain’s growing interest in the region and its potential role in supporting stability and development in North and East Syria.

Assessing Challenges and Security Threats

Speaking to the North Press Agency, Ihsan Qadir, a member of the British delegation, emphasized that the visit was aimed at exploring the region’s challenges and security threats. He highlighted the delegation’s focus on understanding the demands of local communities in the wake of recent geopolitical shifts.

Qadir explained that the delegation planned to meet with representatives from various political parties and community leaders in Syria. The discussions are intended to gather their perspectives, identify their needs, and evaluate Britain’s potential role in addressing these concerns.

Co-Vice President of the Department of External Relations of DAARNES Robel Bahho said of  his meeting with the British delegation that the two sides aim to enhance joint cooperation between Britain and the Autonomous Administration, to alleviate the effects of the [Turkish] attacks, the complete halting of military operations, developing channels of dialogue with the central Transitional Government in Daramsuq (Damascus) through joint committees, and ways to return refugees to their towns and give back their properties.

Emphasis on Economic and Educational Development

Beyond political and security considerations, the delegation is also focusing on economic and cultural issues in the region. Qadir underscored their interest in assessing the state of education and exploring ways to provide meaningful assistance in fostering development.

Strengthening Dialogue Through Meetings

The delegation has scheduled meetings with political representatives and community leaders to better understand their priorities and amplify their voices within the British government. These discussions are expected to inform future diplomatic engagement and support initiatives.
