Syriac Military Council commemorates 10th anniversary of Khabur Resistance with event in Hasakah, North and East Syria

HASAKAH, North and East Syria — To mark the 10th anniversary of the Khabur Resistance, the Church of the Virgin Mary in the Nasrah neighborhood of Hasakah, North and East Syria, hosted an event attended by representatives of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo d’Bethnahrin, MUB), political organizations, and members of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community.

Honoring a Decade of Resistance

Under the slogan In the Land of Khabur, the Syriac-Assyrian Resistance Writes the Epic of Survival and Dignity, the event commemorated the struggle against the Islamic State (ISIS), during which the Syriac Military Council (Mawtbo Fulḥoyo Suryoyo, MFS) and allied forces defended the Khabur region.

The event began with a moment of silence to honor the martyrs of the Khabur Resistance, followed by the screening of a documentary chronicling the courageous battles of the MFS against ISIS.

Reflections on Historic Struggle

Fadi Dawe, a member of the General Council of the Syriac Union Party (Gabo d’Ḥuyodo Suryoyo, SUP), highlighted the heroic role of the MFS and local forces in defending the region. He reaffirmed the SUP’s unwavering support for the resistance and efforts to preserve the history and heritage of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people.

Abgar Nuhomo, a member of the General Command of the MFS, described the Khabur Resistance as a pivotal chapter in the Council’s history. He underscored the MFS’s duty to protect the Khabur villages and their people from ISIS aggression. Nuhomo also paid tribute to the martyrs of the MFS and other defenders, stating, “They are our role models, and we will continue to walk in their footsteps.”

Ongoing Commitment to Martyrs’ Sacrifice

Armin Mardo, head of the Syriac-Assyrian Martyrs’ Families Foundation, praised the unwavering determination of the MFS and the broader Khabur communities. He reaffirmed the Foundation’s dedication to upholding the legacy of the fallen and ensuring the fulfillment of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people’s aspirations.

Testament to Resilience and Unity

The 10th anniversary of the Khabur Resistance stands as a powerful symbol of the sacrifices made to defend heritage, land, and identity. As the region continues to face challenges, the enduring spirit of resistance remains an inspiration for future generations.
