UN and German officials criticize Syrian National Dialogue for excluding minority parties

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — Addressing the recent Syrian National Dialogue Conference in Daramsuq (Damascus), which largely excluded minority political organizations, United Nations Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric understood that the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) was not represented.

Dujarric stated that the UN, alongside its Special Envoy to Syria Geir Pedersen, consistently advocates for diplomatic solutions to the challenges in North and Eeast Syria. He emphasized the importance of including all Syrians in shaping the nation’s future — its institutions, constitution, and culture.

“Everyone should feel they are Syrians, regardless of national or religious differences,” he remarked, underlining the need for inclusivity.

German Concerns Over Exclusion and Turkish Attacks

Meanwhile, German Ambassador to Iraq Christiane Hohmann expressed concerns over ongoing Turkish attacks against the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), calling these actions a major obstacle to security and stability.

“This is not just a German position; it reflects an international stance, particularly among EU countries,” Hohmann noted. She stressed the necessity of involving all ethnic components of Syrian society in building a democratic and inclusive future.

Hohmann further emphasized that all parties must have the opportunity to participate in decision-making regarding Syria’s future to ensure a sustainable and moderate governance structure.

As the situation in Syria continues to evolve, international voices increasingly call for inclusivity and cooperation to achieve lasting peace and stability.
