Arab Summit releases plan for Gaza reconstruction, US and Israel criticize outcomes

CAIRO / TEL AVIV / WASHINGTON, D.C. — Following the conclusion of the recent Arab Summit, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi announced that Arab countries have agreed on a comprehensive plan to reconstruct and develop the Gaza Strip.

El-Sisi stated that Egypt, in collaboration with Palestine, has established an administrative committee composed of independent Palestinian professionals and technocrats. This committee will temporarily manage Gaza’s affairs, oversee relief efforts, and lay the groundwork for the eventual return of the Palestinian Authority to Gaza.

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized the summit’s outcomes, arguing that they fail to address the realities on the ground in Gaza. The ministry emphasized that Hamas should not remain in control of the territory and called for encouraging Gaza’s residents to support the peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump.

The Trump Administration also rejected the summit’s resolutions. A statement from the US National Security Council, delivered by spokesperson Brian Hughes, reiterated the administration’s stance. Hughes claimed the Arab Summit’s decisions do not reflect the current challenges in Gaza, asserting that the area is uninhabitable due to rubble and unexploded ordnance.

President Trump’s vision reportedly includes relocating Gaza’s residents and transforming the area into a US-controlled region, a plan dismissed by the Arab Summit.

The summit marked a united Arab effort to address the humanitarian and developmental needs of Gaza, despite strong opposition from both Israel and the United States.
