Lebanese Christian Front pledges to implement outcome Budapest conference
BEIRUT — The Lebanese Christian Front has committed to implementing the resolutions and action plans established during the recent International Founding Conference for the Support of Lebanese Christians in Budapest. In its regular meeting held at its headquarters in Achrafieh, Beirut, the Front reaffirmed its dedication to following through on the conference’s strategic initiatives.
Roadmap for Christian Resilience
In an official statement, the Christian Front emphasized its commitment to advancing key proposals discussed at the Budapest conference. These included initiatives presented by Dr. Amine Iskandar on behalf of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) and Alfred Riachi, Secretary-General of the Permanent Conference of Federalism in Lebanon.
The statement highlighted the urgency of addressing the existential threats facing Lebanese Christians at home and abroad. The Front described the conference’s outcomes as a critical roadmap for ensuring the future of Lebanese Christians and preserving Lebanon’s identity, which is deeply rooted in its Christian heritage.
Call for Concrete Government Action
The Christian Front urged the Lebanese government to back its ministerial commitments with decisive actions. It called for a clear timeline to disarm all armed factions operating in Lebanon, starting with the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia. The Front also stressed the need to address armed groups within Palestinian refugee camps and other regions across the country.
No Israeli Withdrawal Without Peace Agreement
On the issue of border security, the Front declared that any Israeli military withdrawal from the buffer zone in southern Lebanon must be contingent on a formal peace agreement between Lebanon and Israel. It suggested this approach align with the Abraham Accords and the vision of a new, prosperous Middle East.
Amid ongoing political instability and economic hardship, the Christian Front’s firm stance underscores its push for domestic reform and a proactive role for Lebanon within the evolving regional geopolitical landscape.
