IWD2025: Syriac Women’s Union rallies in Dayrik under the slogan “Women, Bridges to Freedom – Syriac Women, Symbol of Peace”
DAYRIK, North & East Syria — Under the slogan “Women, Bridges to Freedom – Syriac Women, Symbol of Peace,” the Syriac Women’s Union (SWU) in Syria held a march in Dayrik (Malikiyah). The march began at the headquarters of the Syriac Security Forces (Sutoro) and concluded in front of the Syriac Orthodox Mart Shmuni Church.
Participants included the Sutoro, Sutoro Women, Syriac Military Council, and the Beth Nahrin Women’s Protection Forces. They carried banners emphasizing women’s role in the struggle for freedom and promotion of the Syriac identity, along with pictures of martyrs from the Bethnahrin National Council.
At the Mart Shmuni Church, a moment of silence was held in honor of martyr Hawro (Comrade) İzla Özgün, paying tribute to her dedication and advocacy for women’s rights.
This event was held as part of a series of activities for International Women’s Day, highlighting the important role of Syriac women in society and their ongoing struggle for their rights and freedom.
In comments to our news desk, SWU Official in Dayrik Branch, Georgette Abdel Nour, declared that the march was held in collaboration with all the MUB institutions in Syria, coinciding with the martyrdom of Hawro İzla.
