TICINO, DELMENHORST, HAMBURG – After long weeks of preparation, the members of the Bethnahrin Women’s Union and the Syriac Foundation of Ticino, Switzerland, celebrated a joint celebration in connection with International Women’s Day. The celebration was opened by Marta Hobel-Vergili and Aynur Boutros, who gave speeches on the meaning of the special day for women in Syriac and Italian.
During the celebration, speeches were given about the martyr of the Bethnahrin National Council, Izla Nariman Ozgun Ro’yo, and about her intensive work in various areas for the national cause. The celebration was enlivened by the Syriac singer Sargon Sharro and his music band from the Netherlands, who filled the evening with a number of folk songs.
On the other hand, the branch of the Bethnahrin Women’s Union in Hamburg, Germany, organized a symposium in the hall of the Mar Dimet Church, on the occasion of March 8. During the symposium, in addition to the struggle and resistance of women throughout history, attention was also paid to the martyr Izla.
The Union also organized a party in Delmenhorst and Ganderkesee in which various population groups from the region participated. The event was held without music or dance, in honor of the spirit of the martyr Izla.
