Political parties, including the Syriac Union Party, condemn civilian killings and violence in Syria’s coastal region in joint statement
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — Tens of Political parties and entities in North and East Syria, including the Syriac Union Party (SUP), have strongly condemned the recent killings of unarmed civilians and sectarian violence in Syria’s coastal region. In a joint statement, they called for the perpetrators to be held accountable through transparent and legal means.
Escalating Violence and Sectarian Tensions
Amid rising violence and sectarian incitement in Syria, civilians continue to bear the brunt of military operations and growing tensions. The statement denounced the recent wave of targeted killings in the coastal areas, emphasizing the need to immediately halt all forms of violence and inflammatory rhetoric across Syrian territories.
The political groups reaffirmed their stance that all acts of incitement, armed conflict, and civilian killings must end. They urged for legal accountability and an end to the prolonged suffering of the Syrian people.
Call for Syrian-Led Dialogue
The statement underscored that the only viable path out of the crisis lies in a Syrian-led dialogue, fostering sustainable solutions that meet the aspirations of all Syrians. It rejected unilateral solutions and instead advocated for an inclusive political approach that ensures justice, dignity, and equality for all communities.
Furthermore, the parties called on the Syrian Transitional Government (STG) to commit to an inclusive political process that engages all national forces in shaping Syria’s future.
Demand for Transitional Justice and Accountability
The statement urged the establishment of a transitional justice framework in accordance with United Nations conventions, emphasizing the necessity of an independent and transparent judicial investigation into all acts of violence against unarmed civilians. Holding those responsible for these atrocities accountable, they argued, is essential for a just and lasting peace.
Vision for Syria’s Future
The joint statement concluded with a powerful message: Syria’s future must be built on the principles of peace, justice, and equal citizenship — free from violence and exclusion. The parties called on all factions to prioritize reason, dialogue, and collective efforts to end the suffering of the Syrian people and establish a lasting peace that honors their sacrifices and aspirations.
