Turkish escalation attack on Tel Tamr, North and East Syria

TEL TAMR, Syria — While recent steps towards initiating a political process between the SDF and the Syrian transitional government indicate some positive direction, Turkish forces yesterday escalated tensions by attacks on North and East Syria, including Tel Tamr near the Assyrian Khabur Valley, which has been repeatedly targeted in recent days. Turkish forces have shelled several areas in Tel Tamr with heavy weapons, including the city center and a neighborhood where the Syriac-Assyrian community lives. There were no casualties, Hawar news agency reported. However, significant damage was caused to civilian homes, which constitutes an act of terrorism against civilians.

Intense Turkish attacks, among other with warplanes and drones, continue also on areas and positions such as the Tishreen Dam, the Qaraqozaq Bridge, and Mabbug (Manbij), coinciding with ongoing popular protests against the attacks. The Turkish attacks, with their mercenary Syrian National Army as foot soldiers, are clear violations of international laws. Turkish warplanes have also launched intense airstrikes on the village of Serrin, south of Kobani, with no reports about any casualties yet.

These ongoing attacks, which have persisted for 3 months, have been met with resistance from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which shot down 4 drones and destroyed 2 two radar systems of the Turkish forces.
