US sanctions against criminal organization Foxtrot Network in Sweden over ties to Iran

WASHINGTON, D.C. / STOCKHOLM —  The U.S. Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions on the Sweden-based Foxtrot Network for its role in aiding Iran in attacks on the Israeli Embassy in Sweden. The Treasury stated that Foxtrot orchestrated an attack on the Israeli Embassy in Stockholm in January 2024, for Iran. It also noted that the leader of Foxtrot had collaborated closely with Iranian intelligence and security agencies.

Swedish media outlets reported that Foxtrot Network is led by Rawa Majid, a Swedish Kurd, nicknamed “The Fox.” They added that Foxtrot is one of the most prominent criminal gangs in Sweden, accused of extensive involvement in drug trafficking, weapons crimes, as well as bombings and shootings that have claimed dozens of victims, including Syriacs.

In May 2024, Israel’s foreign intelligence agency, Mossad, accused Iran of funding criminal networks in Sweden and elsewhere to spread violence and terrorism in Europe, specifically naming the gangs led by Rawa Majid and accomplice Ismail Abdo.

The Mossad also accused Iran of being behind a grenade attack on the Israeli Embassy in Belgium and a shooting near the Israeli Embassy in Sweden on May 17, 2024.
