Catholicos-Patriarch of Assyrian Church of the East Mar Awa III Royel welcomes Consul General of the Netherlands to Erbil

ARBCA’ILO, Kurdistan Region of Iraq — Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East Mar Awa III Royel welcomed the Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Erbil, Adriaan IJsselstein, at the Patriarchal Headquarters in Arbca’ilo (Erbil), Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI).

During the meeting, several important topics were discussed, including the presence and activities of the Assyrian Church of the East in both the Netherlands and its historical homeland. Broader challenges faced by Christians in Iraq were also a key focus.

The discussion emphasized the role of the international community in supporting minority communities in their ancestral regions. Particular attention was given to the situation in Syria and the need to empower minorities to actively participate in the country’s political processes. This empowerment, the meeting concluded, is essential for fostering political and social stability in the region.
