In other news, Syriac Maronite Patriarch Mor Bechara Boutros Raï met in Beth Kerke (Bkerki) with Lebanon’s Justice Minister and Kataeb party member Adel Nassar. Nassar stated afterwards that he had informed the Patriarch about the developments in his ministry, in particular regarding the independence of the judiciary and the long-awaited appointments of judges, which have been stuck for 5 years.
Regarding the investigation into the explosion in the port of Beirut in August 2020, Nassar confirmed that he, as a minister, does not have the authority to intervene, but insisted that all relevant information should be made available to investigating judge Tarek Bitar, who reopened the investigation in February 2025.
Speaking about the issue of Hezbollah’s weapons in Lebanon, Nassar stressed that it is impossible to build a state without the state’s exclusive control over weapons and stressed the need to implement the ministerial declaration. He added that Lebanon must establish a timeline for the disarmament of Hezbollah.
