VP J.D. Vance to Fox News: “The consequence of our invasion of Iraq is that we destroyed one of the great historical Christian communities in the world. We don’t want to allow that to happen again [in Syria]”

WASHINGTHON D.C. – Vice President J.D. Vance has been clear about America’s intentions toward Syria’s Christian and other religious and ethnic components. In an interview with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, he said he wants to avoid the disappearance of Syria’s historic Christian community. He wants to avoid in Syria the same catastrophic destruction and decimation of the community as occurred after the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq.

“The consequence of our invasion of Iraq is that we destroyed one of the great historical communities in the world. We don’t want to allow that to happen again [in Syria],” he said.

When asked what the US can do following deeply disturbing and distressing reports of the recent slaughter of women, children, men, among minorities in Syria, Vance was adamant about the US’s objectives in Syria with regard to the smaller Christian, Druze and other population groups:

“We do not want another Christian community erased from the face of the earth. We are talking to our allies already. We are already doing things in private to try to encourage them to protect the minorities, the Christian minorities, the Druze and so forth.”

“It is really scandalous. And we have to remember this… as Donald Trump once said, I belief back in 2013, that very often when the mainstream media gets behind these “rebel groups” [“Islamic radicals], there are people who want to fly airplanes into our buildings.. We have to remember who we are dealing with, and we need to ensure that we protect some of these historical communities because… look whatever your views on the Iraqi war were… the consequence of our invasion of Iraq is that we destroyed one of the great historical Christian communities in the world. We don’t want to allow to happen that again. We are certainly not going to put troops in Syria but there are a lot of things that we can do diplomatically and economically to protect some of those groups.”
