Final statement of Syrian Christian Consultative Meeting in Sweden demands genuine citizenship and fair constitution

SÖDERTÄLJE, Sweden — On Sunday, in Södertälje, Sweden, the European Syriac Union (ESU) and the Assyrian Monitor for Human Rights (AMHR) convened the Syrian Christian Consultative Meeting, bringing together independent Christian leaders from across the region.

Participants emphasized that building Syria’s future requires a fair political system and a constitution that guarantees genuine citizenship for all Syrians, reflecting the country’s diverse national identity.

The meeting focused on enhancing collaboration among Christian entities to achieve effective representation in Syria and to address national challenges responsibly. Attendees highlighted the critical role of Christian civil society in fostering dialogue, promoting tolerance, and contributing to state institutions rooted in citizenship and competence while preserving and enhancing Syria’s Christian heritage.



The discussions underscored the principle of equal citizenship as the foundation for securing the rights of all Syrians. Participants stressed the need to restore and strengthen Syrian national identity, ensuring it embodies the cultural, religious, and ethnic diversity that defines Syrian society.

The event concluded with a commitment to hold periodic consultative meetings as a platform for dialogue among Syrian Christian leaders in Sweden. A follow-up committee was established to expand participation in future gatherings and to continue addressing key issues.
