Outcry over Turkish airstrike that killed nine members of same family in North and East Syria

KOBANE, North and East Syria — There has been widespread regional condemnation after a Turkish airstrike in the countryside of Kobane that killed nine members of the same family, including seven children. The attack, which also left two children injured, has drawn widespread condemnation from political and human rights organizations.

The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) issued a statement denouncing the attack, labeling it a continuation of Turkey’s aggressive policies aimed at destabilizing the region and undermining peaceful coexistence. The SDC described the attack as a blatant violation of international law and called on the Syrian Transitional Government (STG) to take a definitive stance against Turkey’s repeated violations. Additionally, the council urged the international coalition and global powers to intervene and halt Turkey’s escalating aggression.

Mazloum Abdi, General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), expressed condolences to the victims’ family and demanded immediate action to protect Syrian sovereignty. In a statement posted on X, Abdi called on the STG to assume its responsibility in safeguarding Syrian territory against foreign incursions. He also emphasized the need for a nationwide ceasefire, asserting that halting military operations is critical to achieving stability and fostering a peaceful transition in Syria.

The Equality and Peoples’ Democracy Party (DEM Party) in Turkey also condemned the massacre, describing it as a war crime and an affront to hopes for regional peace. The party stressed that the attack constitutes a severe breach of international laws and treaties that are designed to safeguard civilians in conflict zones.

As tensions rise and demands for accountability intensify, the Kobane massacre stands as a harrowing reminder of the ongoing violence and instability plaguing northern Syria.
