Organizations in North and East Syria send humanitarian convoy to coastal region amid rising violence

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — In a display of solidarity, the people of North and East Syria dispatched a humanitarian convoy to the Syrian coastal region, aiming to alleviate the suffering of those affected by recent violent events.

The Syrian coastal region has recently been gripped by severe violence. Reports indicate that since 6 March 2025, at least 1,383 civilians, predominantly from the Alawite community, have lost their lives in these tragic events. The violence has also caused widespread displacement, forcing many families to flee their homes in search of safety.

Lifeline from North and East Syria

In response to this humanitarian crisis, a convoy of 20 trucks loaded with essential supplies departed from Raqqa, heading toward the coastal areas. The convoy includes 10,000 food baskets, each containing staples such as flour, rice, bulgur, and canned goods. This initiative is the result of a collaborative effort between the Kurdish Red Crescent (KRC) and various civil society organizations in North and East Syria.

Dilgash Issa, Co-Chair of the KRC, highlighted the collective nature of this mission. He explained that the KRC prepared 1,500 food baskets, while civil society organizations and the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) contributed approximately 8,500 baskets. Issa emphasized that the mission’s primary goal is to alleviate the suffering of civilians, regardless of their location or background.

Upon reaching the outskirts of the coastal region, the convoy faced administrative obstacles. The Syrian Transitional Government (STG) required the removal of the “Kurdish Red Crescent” logo from the convoy’s trucks as a condition for entry. Khadeeja Mousa, Co-Chair of the KRC, confirmed compliance with this stipulation, emphasizing that the humanitarian objective takes precedence over symbolic representations. She assured that the source of the aid is widely recognized and that the primary focus remains on delivering assistance without delay.

The recent escalation of violence has drawn widespread condemnation, with calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the protection of civilians.
