Syriac Cross boosts agricultural development in Amuda with new support initiative

AMUDA, North and East Syria — The Syriac Cross Organization for Relief and Development distributed a new batch of agricultural supplies to farmers in Amuda, North and East Syria, and its surrounding countryside. This effort is part of an ongoing project, now in its third consecutive year, aimed at supporting vegetable cultivation and promoting sustainable drip irrigation techniques.

A representative from the Syriac Cross confirmed that approximately 45 farmers from local area councils received essential irrigation equipment, including pipes and sprayers, to aid in the development of their agricultural ventures. Over the past three years, the project has provided a wide array of resources such as fertilizers, seeds, drip irrigation tools, agricultural tunnels, and greenhouses.

The initiative also incorporates training sessions and awareness programs for farmers, offering expert agricultural advice and practical guidance to improve productivity and overcome challenges in their fields. Regular field inspections are conducted to identify and resolve agricultural issues, fostering the sustainability of farming activities and supporting the long-term goal of self-sufficiency.

Syriac Cross’s Mission

The Syriac Cross Organization is a volunteer-driven humanitarian aid group operating under the principles of the Geneva Convention, as upheld by the International Committee of the Red Cross. Established in Syria in 2013, SCO is dedicated to improving living conditions for those impacted by the civil war, particularly individuals who cannot or choose not to leave the country. These include vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and the economically disadvantaged.

SCO’s work extends beyond direct aid to public advocacy, raising global awareness about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Syria and seeking financial support for its initiatives. Its projects range from providing food baskets and medical assistance to displaced families in areas such as Hasakah, Amuda, Darbasiyah, and Kobane, to implementing its Emergency Response Plan to address immediate needs arising from the conflict.

By supporting the agricultural sector and broader community resilience, the Syriac Cross Organization remains a cornerstone of stability and self-reliance in North and East Syria, ensuring that local communities have the resources and support needed to thrive.
