ESU and Bethnahrin Women’s Union join Newroz celebrations in Bremen
BREMEN, Germany — Manuela Demir, Co-Chair of the European Syriac Union (ESU), and Rafqa Kabriel, an official from the Bethnahrin Women’s Union (Huyodo d’Neshe d’Bethnahrin, HNB), participated in two Newroz festive receptions organized by Kurdish organizations in Bremen over the weekend.
The first reception, held at Bremen’s City Hall, included attendees from various German political parties, such as the Christian Democratic Union, the Green Party, and the Free Democratic Party. Politicians and deputies delivered speeches congratulating participants on Newroz and emphasizing the cultural importance of celebrating such public holidays.
The festivities continued with a gala dinner at one of the city’s large venues, attracting participants from across Germany. The evening featured traditional songs, folkloric dances, and musical performances, celebrating the spirit of Newroz.
Newroz, also known as the Kurdish New Year (Nowrūz, sala nû), marks the arrival of spring and symbolizes renewal and hope. The term ‘Newroz,’ composed of two syllables, translates to ‘New Day’ in Kurdish, embodying the celebration’s deeper cultural and seasonal significance.
