European Syriac Union and Beth Nahrin Women’s Union participate in the Newroz celebrations in Bremen
BREMEN, Germany – Co-President of the European Syriac Union (ESU) Manuela Demir and Beth Nahrin Women’s Union official Rafqa Kabriel this weekend attended two Newroz festive reception organized by Kurdish organizations in Bremen.
In addition to the European Syriac European and the Beth Nahrin Women’s Union, the reception at Bremen’s City Hall was attended by politicians and deputies from different German political parties, such as the Christian Democratic Union, the Green Party, and the Free Democratic Party, who in their speeches conveyed congratulations to Newroz and the importance of celebrating such public holidays.
The City Hall reception was followed by an gala dinner in one of the city’s large halls. Many people from all parts of Germany attended the gala dinner which included songs, folkloric dances and musical performances.
Newroz, celebrated as the Kurdish New Year (Nowrūz, sala nû), marks the transition from winter to spring, symbolizing renewal and hope. The term “Newroz” itself, comprised of two syllables, carries the profound meaning of “New Day” in Kurdish.
