Joint Women’s Platform in North and East Syria launches campaign to support women in coastal region

BETH ZALIN, North and East Syria — A coalition of women’s organizations in North and East Syria has initiated a campaign to support women in Syria’s coastal region, condemning what it characterizes as massacres and severe human rights violations against women and children.

The Joint Women’s Platform, representing numerous regional women’s groups — including the Syriac Women’s Union (Huyodo d’Neshe d’Bethnahrin, HNB) — issued a strong statement condemning targeted violence. The platform described the events in the coastal region as acts of ethnic genocide and held the Syrian Transitional Government (STG) responsible for enabling armed groups without proper oversight.

“The brutal targeting of civilians — especially women and children — can never be justified on political or military grounds,” the statement declared. It emphasized the need for accountability and insisted that any political solution in Syria must prioritize justice and the punishment of perpetrators. The statement also highlighted the critical role of women in rebuilding Syria on principles of democracy and equity, underscoring their inclusion in decision-making processes.

The campaign, which runs from 24–29 March, features a diverse range of activities, including fundraising initiatives, petition signings, letters to relevant authorities, protest rallies, and women-led marches. Cultural events such as theatrical performances, poetry readings, and discussion forums are also planned.

The statement concluded by calling on Syrian women to unite against violence and discrimination, urging collective action to achieve justice and equal rights in the country.
