DAARNES coordinates with UNICEF to address student exam concerns in North and East Syria
BETH ZALIN, North and East Syria — Amid rising concerns among students and parents in North and East Syria, the Education Board of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) initiated discussions with UNICEF to coordinate efforts with the Syrian Transitional Government’s (STG) Ministry of Education regarding upcoming high school and basic education exams.
Since the collapse of the Syrian regime on 8 December, families in DAARNES-administered areas have faced mounting anxiety as thousands of students prepare for exams under the STG’s Ministry of Education curriculum.
In a recent statement, the DAARNES Education Board confirmed reaching out to UNICEF to facilitate dialogue with the STG’s Ministry of Education, emphasizing the importance of cooperation to ensure the smooth administration of exams across the region.
The statement detailed plans for technical teams from both sides to hold periodic meetings aimed at creating a comprehensive plan to address logistical challenges and alleviate student concerns. Measures include extending registration deadlines, designating accessible exam centers, and allowing students to take exams in their local areas.
The Education Authority also encouraged students to prepare diligently for exams scheduled for the summer, assuring them that updates about the examination process will be posted regularly on its official website.
For months, tens of thousands of students in North and East Syria have faced uncertainty due to the STG’s Ministry of Education’s delay in establishing official registration centers in the region. The proactive efforts by the DAARNES Education Board aim to provide clarity and stability, offering reassurance to students and their families during this critical time.
