Syriac Education Department hosts art exhibition to celebrate language and culture in Alqosh

ALQOSH, Iraq — Highlighting the vital role of language in preserving identity, the Director-General of Syriac Education, Salah Khidhir, in collaboration with the Minister of Education, Ibrahim al-Juburi, launched an exhibition showcasing Syriac calligraphy and painting.

Held under the slogan Our Language Strengthens Our Existence, the event took place on 25 March at Alqosh Primary School in the Nineveh Governorate, organized with the support of the Nineveh Syriac Education Department and the Tel Keif Syriac Education Division.

The ceremony began with the raising of the Iraqi flag, followed by speeches commemorating the occasion. Students from various schools presented cultural performances, leading to the official opening of the art exhibition. The exhibit displayed a range of artworks created by students from Alqosh, Tel Skuf, Batnaya, and Sheikhan.



Distinguished attendees included Chorepiskopos Rudi al-Saffar, Chorbishop Ghazwan Shahara, and Father Wameedh Jingil, along with Assistant Director of Tel Keif Education, Taghreed Diyaa. Representatives from the General Directorate of Syriac Education also participated, including Head of Curriculum and Technologies Sharara Yusuf and Media Officer Ramzi Kamlil.

Director of the Nineveh Syriac Education Department Fadi Suleiman and Head of the Tel Keif Syriac Education Division Zaid Ghareeb were also present, alongside supervisors, school administrators, and teachers of Syriac Language and Christian Religious Education.

The event celebrated the richness of the Syriac language and culture, emphasizing the importance of education and artistic expression in strengthening the identity and heritage of the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian community.
