Syriac Lebanese architect Sylvia Yammine honored as First Runner-up of World Federation of Engineering Organizations Women in Engineering Award for 2024

PARIS — Lebanese Syriac architect Sylvia Yammine has been recognized as the First Runner-up of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) Women in Engineering Award for 2024.

The municipality of Zgharta-Ehden, Yammine’s hometown in Lebanon, celebrated her achievement with a congratulatory statement. The announcement highlighted Yammine’s significant impact on architecture and her recognition during the 2025 World Engineering Day celebrations held on 4 March at UNESCO headquarters in Paris.

The WFEO praised Yammine, CEO of SY Architects, for her dedication, expertise, and leadership in the engineering sector. The organization noted her role in spearheading transformative projects that have positively shaped urban environments in Lebanon and internationally.

In its official statement, the WFEO emphasized that Yammine’s visionary work serves as an inspiration to experienced professionals and young engineers alike, solidifying her status as a leader in architectural excellence.

The WFEO Women in Engineering Award, announced annually, honors women engineers who demonstrate outstanding achievements in engineering practice, academia, or leadership while inspiring the next generation of women to pursue careers in engineering and architecture.
