Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad al Thani receives Greek (Rûm) Orthodox Patriarch John X Yazigi in Doha

DOHA — Amid ongoing developments in the Middle East, including Syria and Lebanon, Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani hosted Greek (Rûm) Orthodox Patriarch Mor John X Yazigi at Lusail Palace in Doha.

The Patriarch’s delegation included Metropolitan Athanasios Fahd of Latakia and Archimandrite Parthenios Allati.

The meeting focused on the Syrian crisis, with Patriarch Yazigi highlighting the critical phase Syria is currently undergoing and emphasizing the pivotal role Qatar and Emir Tamim can play in supporting Syria’s recovery post-revolution. Discussions also delved into the historical contributions of Christians in the Middle East.

Emir Tamim expressed admiration for the Patriarch and the Church’s efforts in promoting interfaith harmony and advancing a peaceful resolution to the region’s challenges. He reaffirmed Qatar’s solidarity with the Greek (Rûm) Orthodox Church and its commitment to helping address the difficulties it faces.
