Syria and Lebanon sign border demarcation agreement under Saudi mediation
JEDDAH — Saudi Arabia hosted a high-level meeting between Syrian and Lebanese delegations in Jeddah to address escalating tensions and enhance regional stability.
The meeting, chaired by Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman Al Saud, included Syrian Transitional Government Defense Minister Murhaf Abo Qasra, Lebanese Defense Minister Michel Menassa, and accompanying security delegations.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, the delegations signed an agreement emphasizing the importance of border demarcation and the creation of specialized legal and technical committees to strengthen coordination on security and military challenges.
In related news, the Élysée Palace announced a forthcoming trilateral meeting involving French President Emmanuel Macron, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, and Syrian Transitional Government (STG) President Ahmad al-Sharaa, who will join remotely.
The French presidency stated that discussions will focus on security along the Syrian-Lebanese border, where recent clashes have raised tensions, as well as efforts to restore sovereignty in both Lebanon and Syria.
Additionally, a five-party meeting on Eastern Mediterranean security will be held, involving the presidents of Cyprus and Greece. Topics will include maritime security challenges, the regional environmental impact, and the return of Syrian refugees.
