World Council of Arameans (Syriacs) delegation meets Syrian ambassador to the European Union
BRUSSELS — A delegation from the World Council of Arameans (Syriacs–WCA) , led by Jonny Messo, met with Syria’s Ambassador to the European Union (EU), Dr. Ammar Al-Arsan, in the Belgian capital of Brussels. The meeting centered on several key issues affecting the Syriac (Aramean-Chaldean-Assyrian) people in Syria.
This meeting is part of a series of engagements aimed at conveying the concerns of the Syriac (Aramean-Chaldean-Assyrian) people and their political parties in the diaspora to the Syrian transitional government (STG). The discussion focused primarily on the preservation of the Syriac presence in Syria, with a special emphasis on safeguarding the Syriac-Aramean heritage in key cities such as Maaloula and Jabbadeen, which hold significant cultural and religious importance.
The Council also called for the official recognition of the Syriac language and explored the potential for development projects within Syria to support the Syriac (Aramean-Chaldean-Assyrian) people.
Ambassador Al-Arsan expressed his interest in the issues raised, underscoring the importance of continued communication and the need to explore opportunities for future collaboration.
