Administration of North and East Syria rejects new formation of Syrian Transitional Government as exclusionary
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — The Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) issued a statement on Sunday, declaring its refusal to recognize Syria’s newly formed transitional government (STG). Citing concerns over the exclusion of Syria’s diverse communities, the administration asserted that it would not comply with decisions issued by the new government.
The statement comes in response to the announcement of the STG by Transitional President Ahmed al-Sharaa. DAARNES criticized the new leadership, arguing that it closely resembles previous governments and fails to provide equitable representation for all Syrian communities.
“For weeks and months, Syrians have been anticipating the formation of an inclusive national government,” the statement read. “However, the newly announced government does not reflect Syria’s diversity and remains under the control of a single faction, offering no genuine representation for the country’s various components.”
Warning Against Centralized Rule
DAARNES accused the STG of perpetuating outdated policies that hinder political progress. “The continued reliance on centralized rule will only take the country back to square one, preventing meaningful political representation and deepening existing crises,” the statement said.
DAARNES further warned that any government failing to acknowledge Syria’s diversity would be incapable of governing effectively. Instead of addressing the root causes of the country’s prolonged conflict, such a government would exacerbate divisions, it said.
Declaring it would not recognize or implement any decisions from the transitional government, DAARNES called for an end to exclusionary policies. It urged Syrian leaders to adopt an inclusive approach that embraces all communities, regardless of ethnic, religious, or sectarian backgrounds.
Reaffirming its long-standing stance, the administration concluded its statement by advocating for a decentralized, democratic, and participatory Syria — one that ensures equal rights and political participation for all its citizens.
