Bethnahrin National Council organizations in Beth Zalin and Hasakah hold celebrative processions on the eve of Kha Nison-Akitu
BETH ZALIN, North and East Syria — On the eve of Kha Nison-Akitu 6775, the Mesopotamian New Year, Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) organizations in Beth Zalin (Qamishli) and Hasakah held celebratory events marking the occasion.
In Hasakah, the festivities began with a folkloric performance by the Inana Band of the Syriac Cultural Association, followed by traditional songs and a fireworks display. Representatives from institutions of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB), political parties, and community organizations joined residents in a motorcade procession through the city’s neighborhoods. The event concluded with participants forming dabke circles to the rhythms of traditional Syriac music.
In Beth Zalin, a car procession set off from the headquarters of the Syriac Cultural Association, featuring representatives from the MUB institutions and local residents. The convoy toured the city’s streets before gathering outside the Syriac Cultural Association and the Barmaya Folklore Troupe headquarters, where participants celebrated with dabke dances alongside members of the Barmaya Troupe and institutional representatives.
