Syriac Union Party Co-Chair Sanharib Barsom: DAARNES Dialogue Committee will soon head to Daramsuq for talks with Syrian Transitional Government

ZALIN (QAMISHLI), Syria — Co-Chair of the Syriac Union Party in Syria and member of the Dialogue Committee with the Syrian Transitional Government (STG), Sanharib Barsom confirmed to our news desk that the Committee will soon head to the Syrian capital to conduct direct negotiations with the STG.

In an exclusive interview to SyriacPress, Barsom said that the Dialogue Committee will be tasked with discussing and negotiating all outstanding issues between the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (DAARNES) and Daramsuq (Damascus). The Committee will hold dialogue sessions through specialized subcommittees in order to reach consensus with Daramsuq with the goal to preserve the political and social unity of Syria but with strong [constitutional] guarantees for the rights of all Syrian components. Barsom sees the administrative gains achieved in DAARNES in the last decade as a model to be preserved.

Dialogue Committee composition

The Dialogue Committee consists of representatives of North and East Syria’s diverse composition of components. They are Sanharib Barsom (Co-Chair of the Syriac Union Party-Syriac component); Yaşar Suleyman (Deputy Co-chair of DAARNES’ Democratic People’s Assembly-Arab component); Fawza Yusuf (Democratic Union Party, PYD-Kurdish component); Abdulhamid al-Mehbaş (Future Syria Party-Arab component); Ahmad Yusuf (Co-Chair of DAARNES’ Finance Committee-Kurdish component); Sozdar Haci (YPJ General Command and SDF General Command-Kurdish component); Maryam İbrahim (Co-Chair of DAARNES’ Social Affairs Committee-Arab component).

All in all, 3 representatives for the Arab component, 1 representative for the Syriac component, and 3 representatives for the Kurdish component.

Agreement between SDF and STG

In March 2025, Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Commander Mazloum Abdi (of the Kurdish component) signed an agreement with Syria’s Transitional Government President Ahmad al-Sharaa to integrate the SDF into the army of the Syrian Arab Republic and to integrate the institutions of DAARNES into the institutions of the state institutions of the Syrian Arab Republic.

The agreement was widely criticized for its one-sided wording on the composition of the peoples of DAARNES. The Kurdish component was explicitly mentioned with only a bulk reference to the rights of the other components of (North and East) Syria.
