Syrian Democratic Council and Zenobia Women’s Gathering form new committee to empower women in Syria’s reconstruction efforts
RAQQA, Syria — In an expanded meeting held in Raqqa, the Women’s Office of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) and the Zenobia Women’s Gathering announced the formation of a joint committee to enhance women’s participation across various sectors and boost their representation in decision-making roles.
The newly established empowerment committee, which includes numerous women activists, aims to unify efforts and foster environments where women can play a meaningful role in rebuilding Syria’s social and political fabric.
Fatima Mohammed, an administrator from the SDC Women’s Office, provided an analysis of the current political situation, highlighting the stabilizing role of the SDC alongside the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (DAARNES) and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). She emphasized their success in preventing renewed chaos and the pressing need for comprehensive democratic reforms in Syria’s state institutions.
Mohammed stated that the SDC, as a national democratic project, must advance its political, cultural, and rights-based initiatives to achieve a democratic transition for all state institutions. She underlined the importance of drafting a new constitution to establish a democratic, pluralistic, and decentralized Syria.
This meeting represents ongoing efforts by both organizations to unify women’s advocacy initiatives and reflects the SDC’s commitment to empowering women as key contributors to Syria’s reconstruction and future governance.
