40-day memorial service held for Martyr Nariman İzla Özgün Rehyo in Tur Abdin

MEDYAD, Turkey — On Palm Sunday, a 40-day memorial and funeral service was held in the historic Tur Abdin region to honor the life and legacy of martyr Nariman İzla Özgün Rehyo. The event drew hundreds of attendees from the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community in Medyad (Midyat), Turkey, and the diaspora, alongside members of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo d’Bethnahrin, MUB).

The service took place at the Mor Barsaumo Church, where Father Isaac Ergün led prayers in memory of the martyr, joined by MUB comrades and faithful from across the region and Europe.

After the ceremony, Martyr İzla’s parents, Lucia Hadodo and Gavrieh Rehyo, offered bread to attendees for the repose of their daughter’s soul. The congregation then proceeded to the Mor Abraham and Mor Hobel Monastery to visit Nariman İzla’s grave, paying their respects in a solemn moment of remembrance.

Condolences were later received at the family’s home in Medyad, where community members expressed their solidarity and support.
