Bethnahrin National Council institutions in Iraq and Syria congratulate Yazidi people on Sere Sal, Yazidi New Year

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — Various institutions of the Bethnahrin National Council today extended their warmest congratulations to the Yazidi people on the occasion of Sere Sal, i.e. the Yazidi New Year. “Çarşema Sor” or “Red Wednesday” as the Yazidis call it, is celebrated annually on the first Wednesday on or after 14 April. 

The Bethnahrin Patriotic Union in Iraq sent its Yazidi New Year congratulations in a statement on Facebook. In name of its President Joseph Sliwa, the Bethnahrin Patriotic Union wished the Yazidi people joy, success, progress, and liberation from all forms of religious, ethnic, and administrative terrorism. 

The Syriac Union Party in Syria also conveyed its greetings and congratulations on Sere Sal to all Yazidis, expressing hope that the Yazidi New Year will bring peace and prosperity to Yazidis in Syria and around the world. 

The General Command of the Syriac Security Forces (Sutoro) and Sutoro Women sent congratulations to Yazidis in Syria, hoping that the Yazidi New Year would bring stability, security, and safety to all Syrians.

The Syriac Women’s Union (SWU) in Syria and the Syriac Cross Relief and Development Organization joined in congratulating the Yazidi on their New Year. 

Traditionally, Yazidis celebrate their New Year on the first Wednesday of April according to the Eastern calendar, which this year falls on sixteenth of April according to the Gregorian calendar.
