The Syrian Democratic Council and the Democratic Autonomous Administration congratulate all peoples, especially the Yazidis, on the Yazidi New Year

NORTH & EAST SYRIA – On the occasion of the Yazidi New Year, the Syrian Democratic Council and the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria congratulated all peoples of the Region, regardless of their religion, belief, or culture, especially the Yazidis.  

In a statement published on its website, the Syrian Democratic Council extended its warmest congratulations and blessings to the Yazidis in North and East Syria, and in all their areas of presence, inside and outside the country, wishing them a blessed holiday. The statement affirmed the SDC’s full solidarity with the Yazidis, reiterating its commitment to building a democratic, pluralistic, and decentralized Syria that guarantees the rights and freedoms of all its people without religious or ethnic discrimination. 

The Autonomous Administration also congratulated the Yazidi people on the occasion of the Yazidi New Year in a statement published on its official Facebook page. The statement called on all political and national powers, as well as all Syrian human rights and civil society organizations, to unite and fulfill their national duty to build a free, democratic, and decentralized Syria, where all Syrians are equal in rights and duties. 

Liberation of a Yazidi man in Syria 

In related news, a young Yazidi man who had been kidnapped by Islamic State terrorists during their attack on Shingal (Sinjar) on August 3, 2014, was found in Syria.  

According to local sources, the young man originally from the village of Al-Wardiya, was found in North & East Syria 11 years after being kidnapped by Islamic State terrorists during a military operation by the Syrian Democratic Forces. 

ISIS militants captured more than 6,000 Yazidis from the Shingal region of Iraq in 2014, many of whom were subjected to human trafficking or trained as children to fight and transported across borders, including Syria.
