Tree-planting event held at Syriac-Assyrian Martyrs’ Shrine in Zalin (Qamishli) honoring those who sacrificed their lives for their homeland and people
ZALIN (QASMIHLI), Syria — Following last week’s tree planting and family visits at the Al-Hasakah Martyrs’ Shrine in honoring fallen martyrs, another symbolic community event took place this Monday at the Syriac-Assyrian Martyrs’ Shrine in Zalin (Qamishli). There, dozens joined in planting trees, demonstrating communal solidarity, and cooperation across different society groups.
Organized by the Syriac-Assyrian Martyrs Families Foundation, the tree-planting in Zalin carried deep significance, honoring the sacrifices of those who offered their lives to defend the homeland and people. More than just an environmental effort, the act of planting trees served as a powerful message of remembrance and determination to preserve the martyrs’ legacy. It also reaffirmed the Syriac (Aramean-Chaldean-Assyrian) people’s enduring connection to their roots and homeland despite ongoing challenges.
The event saw strong participation from families of martyrs and members of the Bethnahrin National Council in Syria. The initiative highlighted the importance of maintaining memorial sites tied to the martyrs’ memory and revitalizing them through collective action and hope.
The event reflects the Syriac community’s commitment to honoring their martyrs’ sacrifices and enhancing the bond between people and their land. The organizers hope these trees will stand as lasting tributes to their martyred heroes and inspire future generations to continue the path of resilience and rebuilding.
