Council of Catholic Patriarchs and Archbishops in Lebanon issues statement on Pope Francis’ funeral

BETH KERKE (BKERKI), BEIRUT — The Council of Catholic Patriarchs and Archbishops in Lebanon released a statement expressing condolences over the passing of Pope Francis.

The Council called on all Catholic churches in Lebanon to toll their bells at noon Beirut time on the day of the funeral, once officially confirmed by the Holy See, as a sign of mourning for the repose of Pope Francis’ soul. It also urged prayers and supplications for his eternal rest.

The statement requested that every Catholic priest offer at least 1 Mass in honor of the late Pontiff. It also encouraged all faithful, members of religious brotherhoods, apostolic movements and Catholic organizations to recite the Rosary for the same intention.

The Vatican announced Pope Francis’ passing on Monday at the age of 88, following a 12-year papacy. He succeeded Pope Benedict XVI, who had resigned due to age.
