Syriac Union Party in Lebanon to hold commemoration of Syriac and Armenian Genocides

METN/TUR LEVNON, Lebanon —The Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) has called on members of its community and the general public to join a commemoration event honoring the victims of the Sayfo Genocide of 1915, set to take place on Sunday, April 27, at the theater of Jdeideh-Bouchrieh-El-Sidd Municipality

The event marks the 110th anniversary of the massacres perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire in 1915 and allied Kurdish tribes, which targeted Eastern Christians, particularly the Syriacs (Maronites-Arameans–Assyrians–Chaldeans), Armenians, and (Pontian) Greeks.

Organized under the theme “From the Cross to the Resurrection: Walking the Path of Golgotha in Convoys,” the commemoration aims to shed light on the atrocities endured by Christian populations during that dark chapter in history. The USUP emphasizes the importance of remembering these tragedies, not only for their historical significance but also as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for justice and rights of smaller components.

The evening’s program will feature speeches by prominent figures, including the leaders of Lebanese Forces, Kataeb Party, the Maronite Union, Henchak Party, and USUP President, Ibrahim Mrad.

The USUP calls on all citizens to honor the memory of the genocide victims, reflect on their sacrifices, and advocate for peace and unity in the region.
